The Nova Paint Club, the international association of large independent paint manufacturers, who exchange technical and market information in order to remain competitive with multinationals, has appointed Canadian-based coatings expert Dr Ian McEwan as technical co-ordinator (Plate 7).
After a PhD at University College, Cardiff, Dr McEwan joined ICI Paints' Canadian research and manufacturing subsidiary, CIL, where he worked extensively in the development of OEM vehicle paints, refinish paints and in the formulation of acrylic resins for decorative paints.
He was research manager at CIL when, in 1986, the company was instrumental in the introduction of the first waterborne basecoat line for vehicles at GMC Trucks in Ontario.
As a consultant, Dr McEwan has worked with a number of major international paint companies over the last seven years.
