The Materials Science Centre of the British Textile Technology Group (BTTG) based in Manchester, has recently appointed Julie Thompson as polymer consultant.
Julie joins BTTG from Baxenden Chemicals where, employed as section leader of Customer Services, she was responsible for testing and advising on coating, paint and adhesive formulations.
With a degree in polymer science and technology, her career has included specialisation in the development of polyurethane prepolymers, blocked isocyanates and related chemistries.
Julie's role of polymer consultant at BTTG will involve investigating new business areas, offering development consultancy, troubleshooting, handling matters under litigation and promotion of the test facilities available at BTTG.
Commenting on the appointment Dr Tony Sager, materials science business manager, said: "Demand for our testing and analysis service has undergone continual and consistent growth. Julie's appointment brings to the Centre the ideal combination of industry experience and scientific expertise, which will be used to strengthen and extend our existing services."
The areas of testing which are currently available are material analysis, coating technology (including: industrial; automotive; domestic and stoving paint finishes), polymer/paint durability (including: light fastness; weathering; colour change and resistance to chemical attack) and adhesion science (including adhesive development and performance).
