Industrial adhesives selection

Keywords Adhesives, Ciba

Ciba Specialty Chemicals manufactures an enormous and renowned choice of adhesives which are used across probably every major industry sector worldwide. The Araldite® 2000 range is already well established and delivers endless bonding solutions, particularly where smaller volumes or cartridge application is required. However there are many other heavy duty industrial adhesives manufactured by the company and, facing this choice, selecting the correct type for a new application is often a daunting prospect. To overcome any confusion and to ease the selection process, Ciba Specialty Chemicals has now brought 36 of its adhesive systems together under one banner the Araldite® Industrial Range which is presented to the purchaser via a new selector guide (Plate 13).

Plate 13 Ciba Specialty Chemicals' new guide

The Araldite® Industrial Range is aimed primarily at manufacturers from any industry using small and large volumes of adhesives. Pack sizes are appropriate and range from 1kg to 250kg drum sizes.

The easy to follow selector lists all 36 adhesive products and acts as a pathfinder to the most appropriate bonding solution for a specific application. Representing three different chemistries epoxy, polyurethane and methacrylate the products are divided into fast, medium and long cure time categories plus a special one-component heat curing category. By cross referencing the list of substrates and substrate combinations with the performance properties of each adhesive, the purchaser can quickly select the right product for the job. Highly detailed information is given on the viscosity, cure times, lap shear and peel strength, flexibility and chemical/ water resistance of each adhesive.

The range is already available throughout Europe, Africa and Asia and sales contacts for each region are clearly set out on the reverse of the chart. Ciba Specialty Chemicals intends to develop the range in terms of both chemistry and packaging on an on-going basis as needs for further adhesives are identified. Copies are available on request.
