Unlike most gloss finishes, "Jotalak", a new water-based alkyd high-gloss coating contains no solvents and is therefore free of any odour, reports Jotun Paints. "Jotalak" is also said to be quick drying to ensure that decoration can be completed in one day, and its highgloss finish allows the coating to be washed repeatedly without impairing its long-lasting protective and decorative qualities.

All these advantages will, it is believed, be of special interest to NHS and local-government authorities, along with others who provide any form of special accommodation.

The combination of good protection, easy application and simple maintenance claimed by "Jotalak" is said to have been achieved without loss of decorative quality. The new Jotun coating is available in a very wide range of elegant, fashionable tints which will refresh and modernise the environment while remaining tasteful and relaxing.

"Jotalak" has already been launched in Holland, where successful projects include the redecoration of housing accommodation in Amsterdam. Preference for a long-lasting high-gloss finish led to the use of "Jotalak", despite the fact that the existing treatment, Jotun "Demidekk" can provide up to nine years' protection for external timbers. The owner of the Amsterdam properties is reportedly currently very satisfied with the gloss finish and protective performance of "Jotalak".
