PPG Industries acquires European truck coatings business

Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries has acquired the commercial transport refinish coatings business of Sigma Coatings B.V., a subsidiary of Belgian refiner PetroFina S.A. Terms were not disclosed.
PPG acquired the portion of Sigma's business involving finishes used for heavy-duty trucks in Belgium, The Netherlands and the UK. About 25 Sigma personnel joined PPG with the transaction, which included no fixed assets.
"This acquisition is another step of measured expansion of our vehicle refinishes activity in Europe", said Douglas C. Hepper, PPG's general manager of automotive refinish coatings. "It enhances our product line and extends our customer universe, and is consistent with PPG's strategy of pursuing profitable expansion in high-growth businesses".
