Ready-to-use zeta potential transfer standard

Ready-to-use zeta potential transfer standard

Keywords: Malvern, Standards

Malvern Instruments is offering free samples, while stocks last, of a new zeta potential transfer standard that is designed for use with any Malvern system capable of measuring zeta potential (Plate 2). The new standard, DTS0050, is supplied in ready-to-use form packaged in a syringe. An accompanying macro programme, compatible with all Malvern Instruments' current systems, aids results diagnosis and provides advice should results be outside specifications.

DTS0050 is classified as a transfer standard in that it has been referenced against an accepted standard. Each batch is validated by testing on a "Reference System" kept especially for this purpose. The Reference System itself is regularly checked against the only available standard, NIST 1980, a positively charged goethite material.

The new Malvem transfer standard claims the advantage of being less expensive in routine use than the NIST 1980. According to Malvern, NIST 1980 is a positively charged material, which is not ideal for use in systems that are negatively charged. A positive material like goethite adheres to the components of the system creating a need for regular cleaning. The Malvern standard is negatively charged and claims to be easily flushed from the system.
