ESIG elects new chairman

Nigel Sarginson has been appointed as the new chairman of the European Solvents Industry Group (ESIG). He takes over from the group's first chairman Peter Hudson who is retiring after more than 30 years with Shell and three years at the head of ESIG.
"I am very pleased to be appointed at this crucial time for ESIG. Peter has done a marvellous job of guiding the Organisation through the adoption of the VOC Solvent Emissions Directive, but there is still a lot of work to do advising solvent users on its implementation at national level and ensuring a balanced understanding of solvents amongst politicians and other key audiences", comments Nigel.
Nigel has spent 17 years with EXXON Chemical Europe and has held positions in toxicology, environmental affairs, and technology and is currently product safety manager for the EXXON Chemical performance fluids and plasticiser businesses. He has been part of ESIG since its inception in 1996, advising on health and safety. He is a member of the European Solvents VOC Co-ordination Group and chairman of the European Hydrocarbon Solvent Producers Association - the CEFIC sector group, alongside the Oxygenated Solvent Producers Association, which make up ESIG. Nigel has been closely involved in the ESIG Product Stewardship Initiatives.
