Wilson Logistics UK Limited (www.wilsonlog.com), part of the global Wilson Logistics Group, has launched an Integrated Logistics Service for importers. Under the arrangement, importing businesses will out-source their entire transport, stock-management and distribution operations to Wilson, in return for which they will reportedly enjoy substantial cost-savings through the resulting rationalisation. Wilson has an extensive customer base in businesses serving the paint industry. The company reports that there is already a large take-up of the new service from within this sector, with Wilson acting as supply chain partner to many importers.

The essential feature of Wilson's integrated system is said to be that it enables the customer to be updated at every point of the supply chain. Using IT links and scanners, the customer's computer system is automatically updated online with all the transactions relevant from warehouse and during transport, including POD. The entire process is described as transparent and the customer acquires a better overview and control of the goods through the whole supply chain. Complete IT integration with the customer's systems provides not only updates during transport, but also at every stage of the order-to-delivery process. Only minimum involvement of the customer's staff is thought to be required, as all information updates are done automatically and do not need to be entered.
