Ultimately versatile VOCs monitoring
Ultimately versatile VOCs monitoringKeywords: Thermo ONIX, Organic pollutants, Monitoring, Analysis
With a large range of technologies at their disposal, the team of specialists at Thermo ONIX believe that they can propose an answer to virtually any problem involving the detection, monitoring or analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) (Plate 10).
From an easy-to-use hand-held intrinsically safe portable instrument to a comprehensive GC system for the environmental laboratory or a continuous multi-point, multi-component monitoring installation, solutions can be optimised for the application and the budget.

All the recognised technologies for VOC analysis can reportedly be supplied, singly or in appropriate combinations. Technologies include gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, infra-red spectrometry and a range of universal and specific detectors, such as FID or PID, can be supplied. Systems are available to measure total VOCs or individual components at levels ranging from parts-per-billion to percent.
VG Sentinel is a typical example of the state-of-the-art packages now available from Thermo ONIX. Designed for continuous ambient air monitoring, it combines a novel, patented multipoint sampling system with a highly sensitive and selective mass spectrometer detector. Samples are taken from as many as 60 remote points, which can be up to 250m distant. Thus a complete production plant can reportedly be monitored – right up to the perimeter fence! According to Thermo ONIX the mass selective detector can identify and individually quantify the VOCs normally encountered in the polymer, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries at sub-ppm levels – performance to ensure compliance with legal exposure or emission limits.
