The 13th Farbe & Lack Award was presented to Dipl.-Chem. Christian Schaller, Research Institut for Pigments and Coatings of Stuttgart, Germany, during the 67th Conference of the Coatings and Pigments Division (APi) of the German Chemical Society in Potsdam.

Christian received the certificate, prize money of 2500 , and bronze statue from Prof. Dr. Claus D. Eisenbach, head of the Stuttgart Research Institute for Pigments and Coatings and speaker of the prize jury, for his contribution: ''Stabilising of Pigments with amphipolar Styrene- Acrylic- Copolymers''

How amphipolar polymers interact with the pigment surface is still not understood in detail. Christian Schaller synthesised defined block and graft copolymers, characterised and determined their adsorption behaviour and their stabilising effect on TiO2 dispersions to prepare the ground for stabilisers for tailor- made polymers.

The conditions of entry for the 14th competition 2002 may be obtained from Dr. Dirk Meine, Redaktion Farbe & Lack, Postfach 6247, 30062 Hannover, Germany. Tel. +49 (0)511 9910-212; Fax +49 (0)511 9910-299; E-mail: meine@coatings.de
