Progressive Epoxy Polymers, Inc., announced the introduction of "Fire-DUR" marine epoxy. The epoxy contains a patented, thin film intumescent fire/smoke retardant formulated to pass smoke and fire spread testing. Instead of burning vigorously with thick black smoke like ordinary marine epoxies, Fire-Dur will self extinguish when the fire source is removed and produces only a light white smoke. It works by producing an expanding "char layer" that resists burning and smoking.
