Bayer Chemicals Product portfolio for the paper industry from a single source: new, efficient retention system
Bayer Chemicals, a division of Bayer AG, offers one of the most comprehensive product portfolios for the paper industry, including processing and functional chemicals, fluorescent whitening agents and a wide range of dyestuffs and pigments for use in the production of all kinds of paper from graphic papers, tissue and towels to packaging and specialty papers.
Retaminol® is a range of retention agents for controlling the drainage, retention and sheet formation in paper production. The products can be used effectively both in the white water circulation and in the treatment of waste water. The wide range of retention agents available consists of water-soluble polymers supplied in the form of anionic, cationic or non-ionic emulsions, solutions or powder. The company will also shortly be putting microparticle systems on the market. According to recent studies still to be completed, Bayer's microparticles can be combined with cationic polymers to give a highly efficient retention system which not only ensures optimum control of the retention and drainage, but will also lead to considerably improved sheet formation in the future.
The Baysize™ products are used for the surface or internal sizing of printing, writing and publication papers, packaging papers and specialties. Baysize™ I is a group of synthetic, reactive sizing agents used primarily for internal sizing. The Baysize™ S¸ surface sizing agents are synthetic, anionic, cationic or amphoteric sizing agents which are generally used to improve the surface properties and therefore mainly influence the writing and printing properties and the toner adhesion.
The synthetic dry and wet strength agents – Baystrength™, Nadavin®, Isovin®, Parez®, Paramel® – are used in the production of a wide range of papers, e.g. wallpaper, laminate base paper, packaging and filter papers and tissue, to obtain the desired strength properties under the specific usage conditions.
The Levacell®/Pontamine® and Astra® dyestuffs and the Bayferrox® inorganic pigments provide the right colour effects. Bayer also offers organic pigments from the Ponolith®/Levanyl® range. The comprehensive Blankophor® range contains fluorescent whitening agents for all applications in the paper industry. Five new special types were recently added to the range. The inclusion of fluorescent whitening agents improves the contrast when printing graphic papers and gives more brilliant colour effects.
