Presentation of the Heckel Award will be made at the Opening Session of the Federation's 81st Annual Meeting, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, in Philadelphia, PA on 13 November 2003.

Considered the most prestigious of FSCT awards, the George Baugh Heckel Award recognizes an individual whose contributions to the organization have been outstanding. According to Heckel Award Committee Chair, Rose Ryntz of Visteon Corp., Dearborn, MI, "Mr Gough has been a pillar of strength and endurance through the 6 years that I have known him. He has led the Federation as President in a time of tremendous change, yet his professionalism and collegiate spirit have made working with him a pure delight. I am proud to know such a generous, dedicated, and intelligent individual. Without his leadership, the industry would not be the same".

Mr Gough was "amazed, surprised, delighted, and humbled", when he learned of his selection as Heckel Award recipient, "especially given that this award is the highest that the Federation can bestow, and the list of previous recipients reads like a 'Who's Who' of eminent members of our organization and the industry". Mr Gough is the first resident of the United Kingdom to receive the Heckel Award.

Established in 1951, the award is dedicated to the memory of George Baugh Heckel, who served as temporary Chairman when the Federation was organized in 1922, and as Secretary for many years thereafter.
