Akzo: success for Brazilian paint brands

Two of Akzo Nobel’s coating brands in Brazil have received awards from the Brazilian Association of Retail Stores-Building Materials. The honors were presented to “Sparlack”, which was recognized in the Technological Innovation category, and to “Ypiranga”, which was successful in the marketing and sales class. As part of the awards program, all the entries were assessed by a special jury. The Brazilian arm of Akzo Nobel’s International Decorative Coatings business is based near São Paulo.

The winning Sparlack entry was “Cetol Deck”, a varnish, specially developed for the wooden decking often used around swimming pools. The product leaves a flexible protective film on the wood which expands and contracts with the surface as the temperature changes, thus preventing the varnish from cracking and breaking off. Ypiranga’s winning entry was “Kit Piscina Plus”, a paint system for use on swimming pools made of fiber and concrete. The kit is composed of enamel polyurethane, catalyst and thinner and was developed in response to the huge demand for swimming pool coatings. It is water resistant, does not discolor or release any impurities during cleaning.
