  • Polyester-epoxy hybrids dominate the powder coatings industry, representing up to 70 per cent of the market, followed by polyesters, epoxies, polyurethanes and acrylics.

  • Average country or regional prices across the board vary considerably, from highs of approximately EUR 5.50/kg down to EUR 1.70/kg.

  • Penetration of powder coatings differs by country from 4 up to 12 per cent. With growth rates that vary by region from 3 to 12 per cent and more per year, by the year 2008, the powder coatings market in the Asia Pacific region will reach 500 thousand tonnes and by the year 2013, the 800 thousand tonnes mark.

  • Growth rates are indicated for each single country. Irfab reports that there is still plenty of room for increased penetration of Powder Coatings in this region.

These are some of the striking conclusions from the long awaited strategic market and technology assessment study conducted by Irfab Chemical Consultants (available at: www.irfab.com) and sponsored by major chemical, paint and powder coatings companies worldwide, with the title “POWDER COATINGS MARKETS ASIA PACIFIC RIM 2003-2013”, covering over 25 countries and more than 150 manufacturing sites.

The study reports import/export by individual country, shares of market participants, both local producers and importers, sourcing of selected raw materials, and trends in novel powder coating technologies. Issues like joint ventures and/or commercial agreements are also examined in the study.

The study provides profiles of powder coatings manufacturers and key market information by country, by application, and by chemistry.

The report is a worthy document for corporate business planning and R&D decision-makers and provides tools for strategic decision making to identify untapped opportunities and explore new geographical markets.

Concurrently with this powder coatings study, a similar study of the Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa, including Turkey, is being published, covering 25 countries in the region.
