Ultrasonic Scientific launches “first of its kind” colloid stability analyzer

Keywords: Colloids, Measurement, Testing and instruments

Ultrasonic Scientific Ltd, innovator in high-resolution ultrasonic spectroscopy (HR-US) for material analysis, announces its new ground breaking instrument, the Colloid Stability Analyzer. This instrument is the first of its kind as it is the only ultrasonic analyzer of sedimentation stability, bringing the unique benefits of ultrasound to this field. The HR-US Colloid Stability Analyzer can analyse emulsions and suspensions, providing a valuable tool for R&D and process development scientists and QA/ QC analysts in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, cosmetics, personal care and other industries.

Unlike traditional techniques, Ultrasonic Scientific's Colloid Stability Analyzer (Plate 2) provides precise quantitative measurements, allowing accurate information to be gathered on average particle size, particle concentration and rate of sedimentation/ creaming and assessing degree of flocculation/aggregation in suspensions. This analyzer is unique in its field as it can be pressurized up to 10 bars, allowing analysis of liquids with low boiling points and liquids at high temperatures (above boiling point).

Users benefit from the Colloid Stability Analyzer's ability to perform non-destructive and small sample analysis. In addition, this new HR-US instrument enables the analysis of opaque materials and provides data processing algorithms.

Ultrasonic spectroscopy is a non- destructive technique that is based on precision measurements of parameters of high-frequency sound waves propagating through analysed samples. These waves propagate through most materials including opaque samples (down to a volume of 0.03 ml) and allow direct probing of intermolecular forces. Through its HR-US series Ultrasonic Scientific has made commercial ultrasonic instruments available for a wide spectrum of analytical tasks in a variety of industries including biotech, pharmaceutical, food, chemical and polymer.
