New gear pump eclipses traditional chemical metering pumps

New gear pump eclipses traditional chemical metering pumps

Keywords: Pumps, Fluid equipment

AxFlow has launched Pulsafeeder's new magnetically driven rotary gear pump that has been developed specifically for the low flow, moderate pressure applications where diaphragm, piston, progressive cavity, lobe, peristaltic, AOD and reciprocating plunger pumps have traditionally dominated. Using non-metallic materials for all wetted components, the all-new Eclipse pump displaces a constant volume of liquid per revolution and delivers a pulse-free linear flow that so many metering applications demand.

All well and good, you might say; but where's the incentive to change from the tried and tested pump types that already come close to the holy grail of metering and dosing? The answer is very simple: the clever people at Pulsafeeder have designed a pump that is made up from a miserly 16 components and is wholly leak-free because its magnetic coupling eliminates the need for mechanical seals. With so few components, inventory control and spare parts holding is minimised and servicing can be performed in-situ within minutes.

There are four models in the Eclipse Series, providing flows from 0.38 to 75.8l pm and accommodating pressures up to 13.8 bar. Should circumstances arise, the Eclipse is capable of dry running for up to 30min, a capability not matched by many other types of pump. In terms of corrosion resistance, the use of fluoropolymers for components that come into contact with the pumped liquid allow the Eclipse to be employed for handling a wide range of chemicals and aggressive fluids.

In designing the Eclipse, Pulsafeeder have paid considerable attention to operating efficiency, minimum downtime and space availability. Efficiency is represented by the pump's ability to handle low flow duties without the problems of cavitation, increased loads and unstable flow associated with centrifugal pumps. Downtime is minimised because all wearing parts can be easily replaced by removing the front cover, whilst there is also no need to disconnect piping or motor connections. And because it is a compact design, the Eclipse has a far smaller footprint area, making it ideal for those duties where space and weight have to be taken into account.

“The arrival of the Eclipse is a very exciting development, for it offers a highly effective and competitive alternative to the traditional pumping technologies for metering and dosing,” comments AxFlow managing director Tony Peters. “The markets and range of applications for which the Eclipse can be specified are considerable, particularly where hazardous materials and environments are involved.”

So, if you are looking for a high accuracy flow, leak-free, low maintenance, low power consumption, compact pump that can handle some of the most aggressive liquids, then the Pulsafeeder Eclipse warrants a close inspection.
