Metals need to be rigorously tested for strength and hardness in order to conform to industry standards. Current users of the Brinell, Rockwell and Vickers tests contained within BS EN ISO 6506:1999, BS EN ISO 6507:1998 or BS EN ISO 6508:1999, should be aware that the existing standards for metal hardness tests are being revised and replaced by a new series. Metal manufacturers, users and testers need to update their standards to keep up to speed with industry changes by adopting the guidance provided in the following revisions from BSI Business Information.
For each of the tests, all parts should be used. The standards provide guidance on:
