Now there is a workable alternative to using hazardous solvents for cleaning out and recovering paint spray booth equipment as Chymera Group launches Acrastrip in the UK.

Acrastrip is a safe non-volatile solvent mix designed to replace hazardous volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Already used by many leading companies in the USA, including Boeing, Mercedes-Benz and General Motors, Acrastrip is a blend of safe, very high boiling solvents and solvating agents which are diluted with water and can be used at room temperature. It can be used to clean most types of paints and resins – cured and uncured – as well as greases, oils and lacquers from machinery, tools, guns and surfaces, by hand, through pumps or in industrial wash machines.

According to Mark Wareing, Managing Director of Chymera:

“Acetone and other solvents, collectively called VOCs are hazardous, toxic and environmentally damaging and many companies are looking for safer alternatives that are both effective and easy to use. Acrastrip is the ideal solution as it requires no process changes but does the job. It has also been shown to be compatible with many automotive paint blends.”

“Companies using VOCs also face problems with storage and must undertake rigorous Health & Safety risk assessments. And charges for safe disposal of hazardous VOC waste can mount up.”

Wareing continues:

“Companies are now required by law to look at alternatives to VOCs and if they elect not to use safer alternatives they will be leaving themselves open to prosecution from employees who may suffer ill effects from long term, chronic exposure.”

In addition to being safer to use than VOCs, Acrastip can be simply recycled leading to financial savings.

Acrastrip has been formally approved in the US by the Environment Protection Agency as an environmentally friendly cleaner where it is in widespread use.
