As the Ipex 2006 exhibition draws to a close, IIR Exhibitions said that the show has exceeded expectations, particularly in terms of international status. At close of business on April 10, over 50,000 individual visitors had passed through the doors of the NEC, Birmingham (UK). With the inclusion of repeat visits, the figure exceeded 78,000 over the course of seven days.

Trevor Crawford, Ipex 2006 Exhibition director, said: “We're delighted that the initiatives such as the Innov8 theatre, international days and training have been valuable for visitors and have enabled them to extend their visit to Ipex. The feedback we've received has been outstanding.” IIR said that reinforcing the importance of Ipex for the global print industry, 40 per cent of visitors came from beyond the UK.

Regions with particular growth opportunities for exhibitors included eastern Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia with over 2,000 visitors coming from each area.

Crawford commented: “Feedback from exhibitors indicates that this is the best Ipex yet. Prior to the show, we worked closely with the Ipex Advisory Committee (IAC) to ensure that our efforts were focussed where we could make a real difference to our exhibitors' businesses.” And he added: “The proportion of overseas visitors at the show re-confirms Ipex's international pedigree. Working with the IAC has definitely paid off and we will continue to work with an advisory committee in the future for Ipex 2010.”
