With a record participation of 161 delegates from 25 countries, the European Coatings Conference “Polyurethanes for High Performance Coatings IV” (23-24 March 2006) again gathered the international PUR coatings industry in Berlin, Germany. 16 high- level presentations on recent raw material developments demonstrated the unabated high research activities in this field. In a survey during the conference, the vast majority of delegates said that they expect further growth of the PUR coatings market – most in automotive applications, least in the can/coil market. 1K and 2K waterborne PUR coatings were identified as the key growth technologies, with radiation-curing and dual-cure systems coming in next. The survey also showed that legislative regulation is clearly considered as the main driver for further development, followed by a market pull towards higher performance/more functionality and by customer demands for lower cost solutions.
