2009Partners in Environmental Technology Technical Symposium & Workshop

The Partners in Environmental Technology event promotes the many different partnerships that play a key role in the success of federal technology development: the partnership between Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other federal agencies; the partnership between federal agencies, private industry, and academia; and most importantly, the partnership between technology developers, end-users of technology, and environmental regulators/policy developers. This year's Symposium & Workshop will offer a dynamic opening Plenary Session, 12 technical sessions, five short courses, and an Exhibit Hall. Technical sessions will highlight research and innovative technologies that assist the DoD in addressing increasingly complex environmental and mission sustainability challenges. Over the course of the three days, short courses on select technologies in the environmental restoration and munitions management areas will offer unique training opportunities on recent advancement in science and technology. Other highlights include more than 400 posters supporting technology transfer, exhibit booths offering information about funding opportunities in related research programs, a special session providing a summary of SERDP and ESTCP program development and opportunities to conduct research and demonstrations, and networking with approximately 1,000 environmental professionals.

Gel Sympo 2009

This is the 8th international gel symposium organaized by Research Group on Polymer Gels, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan. This symposium will address the challenges by focusing on three target areas: fundamental science of gels; role and function of gels in material science and engineering; and applications of gels. Beside coventional applications of gels in food and cosmetics, sensors, separation systems, and optical devices, applications in industry such as MEMS, display techniques, fuel cells, and in bio-science, such as drug delivery, biomedical implants, tissue engineering, and biomimetic materials are included. More than 20 excellent scientists will be invited from Asia, Europe, and America to the symposium. Besides, contributed oral and poster presentation will be programmed.
