Looks beyond the current global economic and financial crisis (“credit crunch”) and recession to consider the potential role that quality and quality management issues might play in the future of the global economy and its recovery. Discusses issues associated with sustainability and the likelihood that once the global financial crisis has receded, attention must be paid to the twin challenges of the loss of cheaply available oil, and the need to stabilize carbon emissions in a bid to curb global warming. Considers the four pivotal issues relevant to the current, damaged world economy: whether there are any changes to the structure of the business that are both desirable and necessary; whether it is possible to use shared services to reduce costs and improve service delivery; how it will be possible to keep the people needed by the business to drive the organization’s success through the downturn and beyond for a sustainable future; and how it will be possible to gain the support of the senior management.Article type: ViewpointISSN: 1352-8769Reference: 39AC331
