The SUNX EX-F70 series of sensors available from MEW-UK Ltd, is a reliable detection system that is able to consistently detect small liquid leaks and inform a control system (Plate 8). Particularly suitable for use in applications such as bottle or container filling, the EX-F70 enables technicians to monitor for spillage at an early stage.

Plate 8 The SUNX EX-F70 series of sensors

Designed to mount on the base of a machine and monitor for spillage of liquid, the compact EX-F70 series sensor (10 mm depth) is encapsulated in a plastic housing and mounted on a special bracket within an area where spillage can occur. The head itself consists of a transmitter and receiver. When mounted in a liquid free environment, the receiver collects light from the transmitter after it has passed through a specially designed sensing surface. When a liquid is placed within the area of the sensor the capillary effect causes the beam to be disrupted and no longer detected by the receiver. This will then switch the NPN transistor output.

Using the EX-FC1 module, up to eight leak detection sensors can be connected, thus increasing the area for liquid detection. The unit will generate a single output when any one of the sensors detects a spillage.
