Future changes to the Building Regulations – next steps

Article Type: Recent publications From: Structural Survey, Volume 29, Issue 3

At the end of July 2010, parties were invited to submit their ideas and evidence on ways to improve the Building Regulations, on reducing the regulatory burdens and on ways to deliver even better levels of compliance. Several hundred responses were received providing helpful and valuable information which has been used to develop this programme. The key theme to emerge has been that parties believe the regime is generally fit-for-purpose, but that there are things that can be improved. The plan now is to take forward a programme of work to examine a number of areas and to develop detailed proposals for consultation. This programme will have a particular focus on deregulation and streamlining of the technical and procedural aspects of the regulations.
