Eastern Europe to emerge as serious mobile player

Keywords: Russia, Electronics

(Electronic News) The Eastern Europe mobile market will rake in $29 billion in annual service revenue, including $4.6 billion in mobile data, by 2007, according to the Yankee Group.

Russia emerged as the largest and fastest growing mobile market in Eastern Europe, raising regional penetration to 22 percent, the market research firm said.

While further growth is possible, Yankee reported that average revenue per user (ARPU) continues to decline and net additions are slowing. Mobile data services are gaining traction in some markets – boosting ARPU – but deployment and use vary by country and subregion.
