The quantity of material being published grows exponentially each year. Information overload is a challenge facing every serious researcher and practitioner. Within 12 months new titles will have emerged, existing journals will have changed editorial direction, and some journals will have ceased publication. Some will no longer make the grade. Others will have improved during the period since the last review. Each accreditation board member takes special responsibility for his or her area of expertise.

In reaching their decision, accreditation board members have been informed by the library holdings of leading centres of excellence around the world (such as Harvard University, MIT and Stanford University), customer recommendations and feedback on journal performance.
