Collaboration brings Egg’s IT project to the boil: Field where failures outnumber successes

Abstract

An extensive review of systems development practices during the late 1990s produced some alarming statistics. It suggested that up to 90 percent of all IT projects failed to meet their goals, while 80 percent were late and over‐budget, and 40 percent were abandoned. The value of IT investments has been questioned particularly strongly in the field of e‐commerce. Although some e‐business ventures have been hugely successful, there have been many failures within the electronic market place. A strong IT‐business link will help to develop e‐business solutions and one of the UK’s most successful on‐line banks, Egg, has nurtured this relationship impressively.
