Abstract

Purpose

The paper aims to give a brief account of the IFLA Congress held in Gothenburg, Sweden, 10‐15 August 2010, and impressions of a first timer.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper offers the viewpoint of a newcomer to IFLA who in attending the conference, endeavoured to sample the various aspects available, whilst also relating, where feasible, to her own experience.

Findings

The paper is intended to be a personal summary that would be of interest to anyone considering attending IFLA. There is an emphasis on the variety of experiences available.

Originality/value

Whilst there are no practical or intellectual implications stemming from this paper, it provides a report of a major annual international conference of value to international information and library professionals.
