Abstract

Purpose

This article is the fifth in a series that analyses the constantly changing structure of the TMT sector. It covers the period 28 March 2003 to 25 March 2004.

Design/methodology/approach

The article is designed so as to contain at its core the creation of a series of databases in tabular form that can be used to analyse structural trends over a period of many years.

Findings

Prior to March 2002, the TMT sector spent two years in the doldrums, and the overall trend continued to be broadly negative during the ensuing year, partly driven by the implosions at the likes of WorldCom. However, there are signs that the worst is now over with most indicators turning positive during the year to March 2004.

Originality/value

Empirical research based on current data is very scarce in the public domain. This series of articles makes a major contribution to the analysis of how and why the structure of the TMT sector is evolving.
