One of the aims of the international journal of energy sector management is to analyse issues and challenges of energy sector management across the world and propose possible solutions. The first issue of 2014 presents six papers covering wide range of topics across the energy sector management of six countries from both developing and developed nations.

The first paper deals with the project management issues of petrochemical projects in Vietnam. Pham and Hadikusumo in their paper entitled “Schedule delays in engineering, procurement, and construction petrochemical projects in Vietnam: a qualitative research study” analyse causes of project delay in engineering, procurement and construction projects by interviewing key personnel. Their findings suggest a few improvement measures. The second paper entitled “DSS for rural domestic energy planning – case study of a block in central India” by Deshmukh et al. develops decision support system for strategic decisions in energy planning in rural India. Hurlbert in his paper entitled “Evaluating public consultation in nuclear energy: the importance of problem structuring and scale” hypothesizes the public participation model for nuclear industry. Stankeviciute and Riekkola analyse “Development of combined heat and power generation in the EU”. In their paper entitled “Methodology for optimizing geographical distribution and capacities of biomass power plants in Sabah, East Malaysia”, Lim et al. identify locations for potential biomass power plants in Malaysia. The last paper entitled “Behavioral explanation of contagion between oil and stock markets” by Ghorbel et al. investigates empirical evidence of behavioral contagion between oil market, US market and stock markets of oil-importing and oil-exporting countries, during the oil shock and US financial crisis period of 2008-2009.

The IJESM will publish a special issue this year on “Waste to Energy” discussing on the issues and challenges of implementing and operating waste to energy plants in both developed and developing countries. The special issue will mainly cover the selected papers from the International Conference on Solid Waste Management at Hyderabad in India in 2014. Authors intended to submit their unpublished manuscripts for this special issue that are not presented in the conference can submit their articles via online system. Additionally, we intend to publish in 2015 and 2016 two special issues on “Oil Pipeline Transportation Issues and Challenges” and “Risk Management in Energy Industry”. If any competent researcher is interested to lead these special issues please contact editorial office.
