The acquisition of the International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship by Emerald Group Publishing Limited

A message from the Editor (Professor Michel Desbordes)

As the Editor of IJSMS, I am very excited about the acquisition of our journal by Emerald. IJSMS was created in 1999. Since this date, it has had some prestigious Editors such as John Amis, David Shani and Simon Chadwick. These estimable academics, with a high worldwide reputation in the field of sport marketing, helped us to build a very strong journal: IJSMS is now among the top four journals in sport marketing, according to the various rankings. The acceptance rate is now around 20 percent. The reputation of Emerald in the academic world will help us to increase awareness of the journal in order to attract the best academics to submit their work and to join the editorial board. I am very proud to be part of this new adventure.

And message from the Publisher (Richard Whitfield)

Welcome to this first issue of IJSMS to be published by Emerald Group Publishing. The journal aims to bring together scholars and professionals to enhance both the body of knowledge and the world of practice in this field. That aim fits squarely with the goals of Emerald which has always been to publish useful research which can have an impact within both the academic and professional worlds.

Emerald is approaching its half century so is now a very established publishing house with a broad international base and the ability to disseminate research worldwide. In 2015 the Emerald marketing collection (comprising 22 journals and 23 with the addition of this journal) registered in excess of five million article downloads. That means one article downloaded from the portfolio every six seconds somewhere in the world. Authors write so that people will read and hopefully use their ideas. Emerald will help to make that happen!
