Articles in this special issue of the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal are related to the Australasian Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research Conference (A-CSEAR 2008), an international conference held between 7-9 December 2008 at the University of South Australia, addressing issues in sustainability accounting and reporting. The published articles are the result of a review process that commenced with 110 participants and 50 papers presented at the conference, the submission of over 20 articles to the special issue, and the publication in this issue of five articles. The guest editors arranged the refereeing of submissions and would like to express their thanks to the co-editors of AAAJ, Professor James Guthrie and Professor Lee Parker, for their constant encouragement and advice. In addition thanks go to Rainbow Shum, research administrator for journals at the Centre for Accounting, Governance and Sustainability, University of South Australia, for her efficient administration of the independent review process. Finally we greatly appreciate the high level of support from reviewers who unstintingly devoted their time to encouraging and guiding the submissions of authors. The final submission of this special issue was completed in Adelaide, Australia, and Luneburg, Germany.
