ESDU release VGK program for aerofoil sections

The Transonic Aerodynamics Group of ESDU International have issued the VGK computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code for predicting the aerodynamic characteristics of a two dimensional single-element aerofoil. Two new data items are issued with the code.

VGK is a CFD method coded in Fortran for predicting the aerodynamic characteristics of an aerofoil in a subsonic freestream and includes the effects of boundary layers, wake and shock waves.

The two new data items are No. 96028 (Part1) Principles and Results and No. 96029 (Part 2) User Manual for Operation with PC and UNIX Systems,

The first data item describes the main features of the VGK method, including inviscid and viscous flow elements, the computational grids, and the solution process. A wide range of demonstration and/or test cases is given. The second data item covers the use of the variant of the VGK program suite that can be run with a computer using either PC or UNIX operating systems.

VGK was developed at DERA, Farnborough, and is now available on disk in the ESDU Transonic Aerodynamics Sub-series Volume 3.
