ESDU release new data item for propeller noise prediction

Keywords ESDU, Estimation, Noise measurement, Software

ESDU International have released a new Data Item (95029) that provides a computerised method for estimating near-field and far-field harmonic noise from subsonic propellers with non-axial inflow.

The Data Item allows the user to estimate one-third octave band spectra, dBA and OASPLs in the free-field in a still lossless atmosphere.

The orientation of the propeller axis is described relative to the flight axis by the angles of yaw, pitch and roll. The position of the observer may be entered in reception or emission coordinates.

Blade data required are the chord and maximum aerofoil thickness distributions, blade mid-chord co-ordinates and lift and drag coefficient distributions.

The computer program, known as ESDUpac A9529, is written in FORTRAN 77 and is provided on a floppy disk to accompany the Data Item. The disk also contains files which permit the user to run the computer program with the user friendly ESDUview interface.
