Smiths Industries Aerospace announces new divisional structure
In line with the worldwide restructuring of the aerospace industry, Smiths Industries Aerospace has reorganised its international activities, placing more emphasis on the development of "product families" spanning its UK and US operations.
From the beginning of August, the supply of avionic equipment and systems to the world's major aircraft manufacturers and airlines has been managed by product-based divisions, each with its own area of specialisation. These principally replace existing divisions dealing separately with the civil and defence sectors, a structure no longer appropriate at a time when technologies developed for commercial aircraft are being applied increasingly to military equipment.
Smiths Industries Aerospace will comprise five divisions: Information Management Systems, Display and Control Systems, Sensors and Components, Naval and Marine, and Product Support. Group management functions supporting these activities have been extended to include a business development, marketing and strategy function, to pursue opportunities for growth, and operational support, which will implement best practices in procurement, manufacturing and quality control.
