In British patent 2302 526 East/West Industries Inc. describe an energy attenuation system for absorbing at least a portion of the force impulse imparted to an occupant of an aircraft during a crash. It comprises a seat, an airbag module and a sensor. The air bag module includes an air bag positioned and deployable below the seat to allow the seat and its occupant to move in the direction of the applied impact forces under a controlled striking force. The sensor may be electro-mechanical or mechanical. Also disclosed is an aircraft seat track assembly in which a seat is attached using restraining fittings to two rail members fixed to the aircraft wall.
