The Royal Netherlands Air Force contracted AMST (Tel: +43 7722 892 435) in March 1998 to supply a Spatial Disorientation Trainer. The RNLAF has completed their extensive Acceptance Programme and took delivery recently of this most modern and versatile simulator for operational training. During the hand-over ceremony at the Flight Physiological Training Section of the RNLAF, located in the Aeromedical Institute in Soesterberg, the AMST managing director, Dipl. Ing. Richard Schlusselberger, pointed out the latest state of the art technology used for this superb simulator, as well as its performance and flexibility.

The simulator has a student gondola located on a 6-DOF motion platform with a continuous yaw axis. This gondola is equipped with an instrument panel, including full navigation instruments, engine and radio panels, an AMST collimated display system for the out-of-the-window view, complete pilot control elements, as well as an audio and video system. The control system is based on the AMST FlightlabTM re-configurable A/C model for single engine propeller and F-16 aircraft and a complex GUI system to allow online changes of flight and environmental parameters. An FAA Level-B certifiable Out-of-the-Window Database presented by the Collimator System gives the pilot a realistic in-flight impression of terrain and sky. Actually, the AMST DISO provides demonstration of various disorientation phenomena and instrument flying for fixed wing aircraft, however, will be expanded for rotary wing applications later this year.
