TÜV Product Service Limited has produced a new version of the Guide to CE Marking Electrotechnical Products wallchart, originally produced under the company's former name, Assessment Services.

In the three years since the first wallchart was published, TÜV Product Service has issued around 10,000 copies. So although not quite a collector's item, it has become ubiquitous across a wide variety of manufacturing sectors. Evolution of some of the Directives now demands an update.

The new wallchart, freely available from TÜV Product Service, reflects significant changes in some Directives and adds new ones. Changes include the consolidation of the Telecoms Terminal Equipment and Satellite Earth Station Equipment Directives into the single 98/13/EC Directive, and consolidation of a number of amendments to the Machinery Directive into the new 98/37/EC Directive.

Sections have also been added on the Medical Devices and Active Implantable Medical Devices Directives, both now fully in force. Unfortunately, publication of the In Vitro Diagnostics Directive failed to meet the production deadline of the wallchart! But TÜV Product Service welcomes enquiries on achieving compliance to this Directive, too.

The wallchart provides details of the relevant UK legislation, scope, essential protection requirements, routes to conformity, related Harmonised Standards, and documentation requirements of the Directives already mentioned, as well as the EMC and Low Voltage Directives. With a "Hot Tips" section which aims to help manufacturers to avoid the pitfalls, the wallchart is a useful guide for any company seeking up-to-date information on CE marking for its products.
