Powerful engineering and analysis solutions to universities worldwide

Keywords SolidWorks, CAD, Software, Engineering, Design

SolidWorks Corporation, a provider of what is said to be affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream design-centric market, has announced a new academic software bundle. The package is available for engineering departments at two- and four-year academic institutions that purchase SolidWorks 99 software worldwide. The software bundle includes SolidWorks 99, COSMOS/Works from Structural Research and Analysis Corporation (SRAC), and Dynamic Designer/Motion from Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDII). This software bundle has been established to further the integration of design automation technology in the study of analysis and engineering.

The SolidWorks academic software bundle is an integrated tool for teaching industrial design and engineering. With this bundled program, engineering departments can address numerous disciplines of design including analysis and manufacturing. COSMOS/Works enables students to measure and analyse 3D designs for structural integrity, deflection, thermal load, natural frequency or period of vibration, buckling, and safety factors. Using Dynamic Designer/Motion, students can see and study their designs' behaviour in realistic 3D dynamic motion, immediately correct and detect interferences between parts, and automatically output force data for structural analysis. Both of these SolidWorks' Gold Partner solutions benefit students by reducing guesswork about performance and ensuring the proper functionality of designs.

Rosanne Kramer, manager of education marketing for SolidWorks says:

SolidWorks 99 combined with COSMOS/Works and Dynamic Designer/Motion provides engineering students and educators with some of the most powerful solid modelling and analysis tools available on the market ... Using these three software solutions, students will be able to simulate and solve engineering and design challenges the same way they would in the actual workplace. SolidWorks, Mechanical Dynamics, and SRAC are committed to ensuring that future industry leaders will be prepared to compete in the fast-paced engineering marketplace.
