Sira reports that it has developed a fast turnaround accelerometer calibration service (Plate 4). Ling Dynamic Systems, designers and manufacturers of vibration and environmental test systems, have placed a contract for the calibration of both in-house and customers' transducers, choosing Sira over other suppliers. Nick Woods, Ling's purchasing manager, comments, "We were impressed by Sira's track record in the test market, quick turn-round and competitive pricing".

Ray Hewett, Sira's operations manager, adds:

The driver today is turnaround time. The new high-speed service will run in parallel with our existing accelerometer calibration facility. We recognised that it was important to give our customers a choice between the ultimate measurement uncertainty and speed of service. Depending on the operating principle and service required, some calibrations have been reduced from hours to just a few minutes and we now consider ourselves to be unbeatable on turnaround time, while still delivering a fully UKAS-accredited high quality calibration.
