Swaged components

Keywords: Stevens & Bullivant, Helicopter manufacturers

Swaged components manufactured by one of the UK's leading swaging companies Stevens & Bullivant are to be used in the main rotor actuator system of a forthcoming new 15-seat helicopter, which will be one of the biggest civilian helicopters ever built.

The AB 139 helicopter, being built under a joint venture between Agusta and Bell Corporation, will incorporate hydraulic actuator systems supplied by the FHL division of the Claverham Group. Swaged main pistons are to be used due to their combination of weight saving properties and high tensile strength. The process involves the reduction of one end of the piston in order to accept forged eyebolts.
