The Society of British Aerospace Companies has appointed John Grimson, managing director of Attewell Limited, as chairman of its Materials Sectoral Group (Plate 15). This position entitles John to a seat on the SBAC Council which directs the activities of the trade association.

A qualified accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply, specialising in international supply-chain management, John also heads up another company, Pillars Seals & Gaskets Limited of West Sussex. Both companies are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the aerospace and industrial engineering group, Hampson Industries plc.

John joined Attewell Limited, a major supplier of shims and spacers to aircraft manufacturers on both sides of the Atlantic, just over a year ago, following a successful career in FMCG. Of his appointment he said: "I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the aerospace industry in this way. My role will be to promote the business interests of the UK materials sector through joint industrial activity so that the competitive strengths of the member companies are maintained or improved".
