W. & J. Tod Limited, UK, composite design and manufacturing specialists for the aerospace, marine defence and mass transit industries, have now fully integrated CATIA into their design and engineering group. CATIA, the aerospace standard design system marketed by IBM, will allow both Tod's aerospace and mass transit facilities at Crewkerne to not only receive 3D models electronically, via the ISDN 2e lines for review or modification, but it will enable design work to be conducted to fulfill customers' specific requirements. CATIA will also be used to augment the company's solid modellers Solidwork,s, autoCAD and Bentley Microstation systems – for qualified stress and weights calculations for component design. Project work will also be fully supported by the engineering expertise at their marine defence division at Weymouth.

Engineering director, Andy Cox, says: "The integration of CA TIA at the core of our engineering services will further enhance the understanding of our customer needs, particularly in the area of aerospace component manufacturer. The ability of CATIA to interact with customers' own systems will allow us to visualise customers' requirements quickly to fast-track design to delivery periods".
