Jim French has been appointed managing director of British European, one of the UK's largest independent regional airline. Jim was previously deputy chief executive and chief operating officer of the carrier he first joined in 1990 when it was Jersey European Airways.

Prior to joining British European, Jim worked with Air UK for ten years in various director roles including commercial, planning and marketing. During his time there he was instrumental in establishing Air UK as the premier scheduled airline at London Stansted Airport. In the early 1980s, along with several other European regional airline executives, he became a strong advocate of the regional airline industry, becoming one of the first airline council members of the European Regions Airline Association. He also played a pivotal role in persuading the CAA to rethink its proposal on domestic deregulation, which encouraged the UK Government to provide largesse and hand over thin routes to fledgling British airlines following British Airways' takeover of British Caledonian.
