Concorde – The Inside Story

By Brian Trubshaw – Foreword by Captain Jock Lowe

Keywords: Aircraft, Aircraft industry

This edition has been fully revised and updated to include the Paris crash investigation and Concorde's return to service.

Brian Trubshaw piloted the world's first (and only) supersonic passenger transport aircraft on its maiden flight from Filton in 1969, and remained a key member of the Concorde flight test programme after the aircraft entered airline service in 1976.

When the Air France Concorde crashed outside Paris in July 2000, it seemed as though the final and damning chapter had been written in the story of the world's most famous airliner. The chilling images beamed around the world of the aircraft in its final death throes left an indelible stain on a hitherto untarnished safety record.

As the former British chief test pilot, Brian Trubshaw's close association with Concorde placed him in the unique position of being able to write the inside story of this world- famous supersonic passenger jet. Because of his unequalled knowledge of Concorde, Brian was closely involved in the exhaustive investigations into the French tragedy.

Sadly, Brian died before the investigation into the French tragedy were completed. In this new and updated edition – former Concorde chief pilot, Captain Jock Lowe, gives full details about the crash, the subsequent investigations and the measures taken that resulted in Concorde regaining its certificate of airworthiness in September 2001.

Brian's close association with Concorde and the selection of photographs and illustrations, have made this the best- illustrated and most important book yet published on this aircraft.

Brian Trubshaw was Britain's chief test pilot of Concorde on its maiden flight in 1969 and remained a key member of the flight test team. His autobiography Test Pilot was published by Sutton in 1998. Sadly, Brian died in March last year, but he will always be regarded as one of Britain's most famous names in aviation.
