First course at new technical training centre

First course at new technical training centre

The first course at the new Technical Training Centre at Bournemouth International Airport based Meridian Aviation Ltd, was held in May. The company has invested £23,000 to create the new technical training centre to provide aircraft engineering training on a range of aircraft types, but focusing on Piper Aircraft, as they are the distributors for UK, Ireland and Spain. Malcolm Craft, who was appointed in July last year as Meridian's Engineering director, is no stranger to developing a training facility. His new appointment followed almost 10 years as Engineering director with the Qatar Aeronautical College where he oversaw the aircraft fleet maintenance and established the facility's Engineering Training School. He says that they have worked closely with the Civil Aviation Authority to create a syllabus to fully meet the JAR66 requirements.

"The Meridian TTC will be able to provide initial and recurrent training on all Piper aircraft, from piston engined, to the Pratt & Whitney gas turbine powering the top of the range Piper Meridian," says Malcolm Craft.

He has also confirmed that as sole distributors for German Thielert Aircraft Engines (TAE), courses are to be scheduled to enable engineers to become compliant on the first European certified Centurion 1.7 diesel aero engines. The Centurion is expected to gain CAA certification within a few months.
