Grinding optimisation from Saint-Gobain Abrasives

Saint-Gobain Abrasives is giving manufacturers the opportunity to investigate the performance of their grinding processes and identify where improvements can be made with its Field Instrumentation System (FIS).
“An increasing number of manufacturers are coming to appreciate the impact that abrasive processes have on overall cycle times, product quality and cost” explains Simon Peel, Application engineer at Saint-Gobain Abrasives. “With our technical expertise and abrasives knowledge, we are in a strong position to advise customers on how they can enhance their processes bringing improvements in all these areas”.
To achieve this, the Saint-Gobain Abrasives team visits customers with its FIS – a portable tool designed to monitor and measure grinding processes, providing detailed, comparable information that helps maximise performance. The FIS has been used successfully in all areas of grinding, to improve part quality, reduce cycle times and increase tool life, as well as providing in-depth machine and process studies, investigations and benchmarking.
Simon Peel continues: “As well as providing valuable data about how long- term productivity and quality improvements can be made, the FIS is an invaluable tool in identifying other issues, such as incorrect wheel conditioning and machine programming, as well as providing detailed comparative performance data that enables more informed product and process decision-making to take place”.
