"Glow-in-the-dark" floorpath marking strips

STG Aerospace has won a major supply contract from Air Canada. The carrier has ordered STG Aerospace's SafTGlo system – “glow-in-the-dark” (photoluminescent (PL)) floorpath marking strips that guide passengers to emergency exits in aircraft. The deal is one of the largest single orders in STG Aerospace's ten-year history and is one of the first for STG's new colour SafTGlo.

STG Aerospace was established in 1995 to provide simple and cost- effective solutions for safety critical applications in commercial and military aircraft. In 1995, STG's first ever world patent covered the use of PL emergency way guidance systems on aircraft.

SafTGlo, made by STG Aerospace, is a PL floorpath marking system. The PL systems “store” and simultaneously emit light giving highly visible emergency exit guidance for up to 16h in darkness, after a short period of “charging” with normal cabin lighting. SafTGlo offers a low cost alternative to electrical systems. It is said to be 100 per cent reliable and is already installed in thousands of aircraft around the world.

Also covered in STG's patents is the newest addition to the SafTGlo range, branded ColorMatch, a narrow variant of the SuperSeal system. At just 18mm wide and available in up to 300 colour options, ColorMatch is a “half weight” product, particularly suited to cabins where aesthetic considerations are important. ColorMatch is certified for over 65 aircraft types through its 39 FAA/EASA STCs.
