Miniature relief valve ensures zero leakage

Article Type: Equipment and software From: Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology: An International Journal, Volume 80, Issue 6

A miniature relief valve (Figure 1) which is said to be ideally suited for thermal relief and low flow hydraulic pressure relief applications where zero leakage is essential, is the latest addition to the established range of Lee Products miniature components.

The Lee 281 zero leak relief valve is designed for applications such as aircraft cowl door mechanisms where it will reportedly prevent leakage of oil onto a runway when operating at normal system pressure, but will activate overboard in an emergency, at higher pressures.

According to Lee the cracking pressure of these valves is preset at the factory with capabilities ranging from 1,300 psid up to 4,700 psid and ensures zero leakage in a 1 min test; one drop per hour maximum. The valve provides typical flow rates ranging from a few ml per minute for thermal relief applications and up to 250 ml/min for low flow pressure relief applications.

These valves, which weigh-in at only 6 g, are 100 per cent tested and inspected and are designed for operating temperatures of between −65 and +275°F.
